El Cangrejo has a fair claim to being the most walkable neighborhood in Panama City proper — wide sidewalks, tree-lined streets, and two Metro Line 1 stations (Iglesia del Carmen and Vía Argentina) inside its own footprint. Vía Argentina, the main boulevard, was recently renovated with new sidewalks and tree-lined walkways and is now packed with restaurants, bars, cafés, pharmacies and convenience stores, all within a few minutes on foot of most residential buildings. It has a bohemian streak that Obarrio's banking towers and Santa María's gated calm don't share, and a genuine mixed-use grid that rewards not owning a car for daily errands.
PriceSmart, Central America's answer to Costco, sits within walking distance — a rare amenity to have on foot rather than by car in this city.
